2022-23 Highlights

It’s been an amazing year! Here are some of our favorite moments.

Together we are making Durham a better place to live and learn, for everyone.

Thank you Durham!

As an educator, I want to buy diverse and inclusive books for my classroom... this project has allowed us to put those books in every grade level.

Oak Grove Elementary School teachers talk about how they used grant funds to create an equity and inclusion library. DPS Foundation awarded more than $159,365 in grant funds directly to schools. Click here to check out our 22-23 Grants Program Impact Report to learn more.

Sembrando Raices is a project led by DPS Latinx parents. In its second year, the project has 30+ families actively participating in information and resource sharing and advocacy for our public schools.

We have found what we have in common, which is the education and welfare of our children.

A record 2,200 people attended Evening to Shine, a powerful community event featuring hundreds of DPS students performing at DPAC. This annual event raises funds for college scholarships for DPS seniors.

Giving teachers the chance to be leaders...and do things together is really important. If we can continue doing this, it will have lasting effects in the community.

The air of the event was nurturing, I felt cared for and safe.
— WHOLE Schools Wellness Fair attendee

The WHOLE Schools initiative hosted more than 70 people for a wellness fair and 50 students and educators for mental health retreats. These retreats built their mental health knowledge and skills, with trainings such as Mental Health Myth-Busting.

We awarded $65,500 in college scholarships to 27 DPS seniors from students from 13 schools.

My moms have always told me that it takes a village to raise a village, and indeed every educator I have encountered in and throughout DPS have been part of my village. You are part of my village and for that I am humbly grateful
